Bill was a loved son, brother, husband, father, uncle and grandfather. He was born in Timaru to mother Clara Grace Wareing and father John (Jack) Pilkington Teape. He grew up on the West Coast and Christchurch. He met and married Valerie (Val) Joyce Teape, nee Aldersley, on 4 February 1956 in Christchurch. Their two sons, Gary and Nigel were born there. The familymoved to Auckland in 1972. Bill worked most of his working life in the insurance industry. They lived in Hillsborough for 25 years, then moved to Milford in 1998 in their retirement and grandparent years, which were among their happiest. They were married 61 happy years before Val passed away 9 August 2017. Bill moved to Belmont Lifestyle Village in 2018, and lived contentedly there until his passing.
