June 28, 1943 - July 10, 2026 Celebrated on: August 18, 2026
At sea, Penzance, England, TR19 6HJ
Ruth was a supporter of the RNLI and specifically the Penlee lifeboat, having lost a close friend on the Solomon Browne on 19th December 1981.
Her wishes were to be scattered at sea close to Porthcurno, her ancestors having come from St Levan and Treen.
On 18th August 2026 coxswain, Patch Harvey and his crew took Caroline, Alex and Ellie out to sea on the Ivan Ellen lifeboat from the station in Newlyn. Ruth‘s ashes were scattered within sight of the Minack theatre and Porthcurno Beach.
In our hearts
Ruth Ann was born in Penzance to Alexina Maria Barnecutt, formerly Maddern and John Prynn Mutton Barnecutt. Her sibling, Joseph was born in 1938 but died before Ruth was born.
During a brief marriage to Brian Holmes in Chelsea Register Office they had one daughter, Caroline.
Ruth returned to Penzance with Caroline and remarried on 20th February 1973 to Michael Redvers Matthews in High Street Chapel, Penzance.
The couple remained in Penzance until Michael‘s death in 2023. Ruth then moved to Peterborough to be close to her daughter and granddaughters, Alex and Ellie Sutton.
Ruth‘s passions were for Art and , in fact , any Creative activity as well as being a life long supporter of the Cornish Pirates Rugby Team.
