Julian’s Story — Our Journey, Our Love, Our Adventures

Julian’s story is so much more than the illness that took him from us.

Our story began when we were just children. We were childhood sweethearts, finding each other when we were only 11 years old. Somehow, through all the twists and turns of life, we always found our way back to one another.

We grew up together, fell in love, built a family and shared a life filled with memories, laughter, chaos, adventures and everything in between. Julian wasn’t just my husband — he was my best friend, my safe place, my person. The one I could laugh with until my stomach hurt, argue with over the stupidest things, and still want beside me at the end of every day.

We built a family we were incredibly proud of. Our boys became our world, and then came our grandchildren, who brought a whole new kind of love into our lives. Julian adored being a dad and a grandad, and there was nothing more precious than seeing him with his family.

We always believed there was something bigger connecting us. We believed in the invisible string — that no matter how far apart two people may travel, the string will always pull them back together when they are meant to be. We even believed that we were twin flames, destined to find one another not just in this lifetime, but in the next.

Julian loved life. He loved people, laughter, music, family, good times and making memories. And, like so many of us, he had places he wanted to see and adventures he wanted to have.

Sadly, his illness meant that some of those adventures never happened while he was here with us.

Julian was diagnosed with advanced cancer, and despite everything he endured, he remained Julian. He fought, he loved, he laughed and he continued to think about the people around him. His illness became part of our story, but it never became the whole story.

Julian passed away surrounded by love, with his family close to him.

And although his physical journey ended, we don’t believe his journey has.

Before he died, there were places Julian wanted to go. So now, rather than those dreams ending with him, we want to carry them forward.

We are going to take Julian with us.

His ashes will travel to some of the places he dreamed of seeing, and perhaps to some places we discover along the way. We will leave a little piece of him in the places that feel right — places where we can stand, look out at the world and say, “You made it here, Jules.”

Each location will become another chapter in his story.

This memorial will be a record of those adventures: the places Julian wanted to see, the places we visit in his memory, the moments we share along the way and the memories we make as a family.

Because Julian’s story doesn’t end with his last breath.

It continues in our children, in our grandchildren, in the stories we tell, in the laughter he left behind, and in every place we take him.

And wherever we go, he will be there.

Our invisible string is still there.

It always will be.

So this isn’t goodbye, my darling.

It’s simply the next part of our journey.

This lifetime and the next.
Wherever you go, I’ll find you.
And wherever I go, you will always be with me.
