Gregg Chester
Celebrated on: June 16, 2026
Gregg was bright and bubbly in life, and he didn't want his farewell to be somber, so his funeral service on May 15 was a colourful celebration of his life; to remember and honour who he was.

This was followed by a wake held at a venue ran by a close friend. That same place was where Gregg met his partner, where they got married, and many other special occasions in his life.
Then on June 16 a few people gathered for a picnic at one of his favourite camp sites. It is a stunning place. After a final toast to say farewell to Gregg, his ashes were scattered in the Mulgrave River, to flow through the Goldsborough Valley and into the Coral Sea.

His family has placed a plaque on a rock in the rose garden of the Bairnsdale cemetery, nearby his mother's grave, who he loved dearly.
This online memorial also serves as a marker of his life and his passing.
The location where his ashes were scattered has become a special place for some.
And Gregg will be remembered in the hearts of those who's lives are brighter from knowing him.
Gregg had a full life. He never lost his youthful spirit and he had a heart of gold that touched many people’s lives.
He was born Gregory Francis Chester, the youngest of three, and grew up in Bairnsdale Victoria. Being gay back in those days posed him some difficulties, but he had a good childhood and became a kind individual.
As a young man he designed clothing displays in a department store, then worked as a clothes and hair model. Then as a waiter in the VIP lounge at the trendiest night club on the Gold Coast, at the time. There he entertained many pop artists and icons. He also worked as a barman in later years, in Townsville, then Cairns.
Throughout all this time Gregg loved people. He didn’t know crowds of people, but he really cared about those he knew. If you were Gregg’s friend you knew it, you could feel his love. He had so much time and attention to give.
But he wasn’t that lucky in love, until he met the love of his life at the age of 51. They became inseparable, forging a relationship based on kindness and devotion. Whether in the city or camping in remote places, they did everything together.
When Covid made it impossible to be on the road, they settled down in Cairns, got married and had a family (got a puppy, which later became two puppies). The four of them lived blissfully in their little love bubble for several years, until illness eventually caught up with Gregg.
He had been fighting cancer and winning, on and off, for most of his life. After a few months of rapid decline, he passed away peacefully, at home, with his partner and his two puppies by his side.
