Audrey Celia Gustard
Celebrated on: January 23, 2026
We celebrated Mums life at her funeral in March 2023...and waited until January 2025 when it felt right to commit her ashes to the sea, as per her wishes. We (Karen and Gavin) drove to Magazine Bay in Maraetai where both Mum and Dad had enjoyed picnics, family gatherings, and walks along the sea shore over the many years we have lived here. Magazine Bay overlooks Waiheke Island...a favourite place for our entire family. We lowered Mums biodegradable 'urn' into the water at high tide, at the end of the wharf on a sunny Friday morning - high summer in New Zealand. We reflected quietly for a few minutes and enjoyed the peace of the location before taking Lulu the Labrador along the beach for a nice walk. There were two fishermen on the wharf along with a little girl dancing and twirling all the while. It seemed a good spot for Mum to be.
Mum is being remembered because she was so special..so loved...and even now almost three years since her passing we talk of her daily and see her photographs on my digital display which sits on our kitchen bench...as her photos pop up we are constantly reminded of how much she contributed to our lives, and how blessed we were to have had us with us for so many years.
Audrey was the beloved Mother of Steve and Karen, wife of Frederick WIlliam Gustard (Bill) and loved mother in law of Heather and Gavin…and grandmother to Claire, Andrew, Samantha and Paul. She was also great grandmother to Liam, Sofia, Isabel, Raffy, Indy Suki and Darcie, She lived a long and eventful life, most of it in her hometown of Newcastle on Tyne (UK), but also for a number of years in Spain, a year in Bermuda, and for the last 14 years of her life in Auckland, New Zealand where she passed away after a fall in her 95th year. She was in great health for most of those years…very energetic and still contributing actively to family life on a daily basis. She was much loved by so many…she was a real People Person…loved chatting to everyone she met, and found interest in all the people and activities around her. She loved it here in New Zealand…led a happy busy life here..so a parcel of her ashes has been scattered here…on the Pohutukawa Coast..where she lived happily until her death in 2023.
