Kevin Beaumont
His wife Carol, daughter Laura and son-in-law Mark boarded a Royal Navy tender boat at the Navy base and sailed out to sea to scatter his ashes and lay him to rest at peace.
Off the coast of Portsmouth in the Solent shipping lane for all the Royal Navy boats over time.
Born and bred in Manchester on the 13th September 1949 the 2nd son of Fred and Eileen. His brother Paul was the eldest born in 1946.
In his earlier years Kevin got his strong work ethic by buying a bike on hire purchase and getting a paper round to pay for it, he didn’t want his parents to be out of pocket. Kevin was raised by his Mam as a catholic and he resented the fact that he had to get up early on a Sunday morning to go to church when his Dad could stay in bed. That affected him in later life so religion was a no-no.
He attended St Columbus School and was good academically but he hated it there and couldn’t wait to leave , which he did when he was 15.
When he left school, there followed a succession of jobs which he found boring as all he was doing was making tea and fetching the butties at dinner time for the other blokes. He hated this and wanted more, money included.
In 1967 he joined the Royal Navy for as he thought, excitement and to see the world. Well he saw a good part of the world but not sure about the excitement, as Kevin wasn’t the excitable type, but he did enjoy the foreign travel and the many alcoholic “Run Ashores” in the ports, after all he was a young single man.
All that changed in 1973 when he went on a blind date and met his future wife Carol. I think Kevin was more keen than Carol but eventually he wore her down and she agreed to go on another date with him, well he must of “grown on her” as they were together for over 50 years!
They married in Manchester on the 23rd November 1974 but continued to live in Portsmouth until 1976 when Kevin had done his time in the Navy and they moved back to Manchester, firstly living with his parents until they bought their first home in Timperley in 1977.
In 1978 Kevin got a job as an insurance agent with the Prudential and in September of that year their son Stuart was born followed in 1981 by their daughter Laura. The family was complete.
In the early years of the children’s lives, Carol was always thankful that because of his job Kevin could be there during the day to help out with his calm and quiet presence to help solve any challenging situations . The cupboard and Stuarts split tongue come to mind.
Kevin didn’t have any hobbies but he did love his football and was a life long Manchester United fan and in his later years was a season ticket holder at Old Trafford. Stuart can remember when he was little his Dad used to take him out on a Sunday morning to watch the Sunday League match on the playing fields with him on his shoulders. Kevin loved his football.
The years marched on and as the children grew older the family moved house twice and all enjoyed many foreign holidays together. In fact that continued after the children left home and as a couple they holidayed all over the world in later years enjoying cruising.
Kevin and Carol had many happy years in retirement together until his health became so bad that he wasn’t able to enjoy life as he knew it. Sadly on the 1st September he collapsed at home and sadly passed away in hospital.
It was such a massive shock to us all and we will love and miss his quiet presence forever
