Juanita was a tirelessly advocate for freedom and governmental accountability.

Juanita Elaine Cox passed away peacefully on the morning of July 15, 2023, after suffering from cancer. Juanita was born on February 18, 1948, in Santa Monica, California, the first daughter of John and Vernetta Sopher. The family moved to Reno, Nevada shortly after Juanita was born where she attended local schools and graduated from Wooster High School in 1966. Juanita worked for the City of Sparks from 1966 through 1976 as a systems analyst. Juanita was very active in the dog breeding and show community, where she bred collies, shelties, and salukis. In the 1980s, she became active against nuclear testing in Nevada as well as rallying against dumping nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain. Later, her activism turned towards social justice and constitutional rights protections. Juanita was an activist for 50+ years, a registered (unpaid) lobbyist for 30 years, researcher for several published books, participant in a local public access television show, a paralegal, and parliamentarian.

Juanita is preceded in death by her father John, mother Vernetta, brother-in-law James Lusk, and husband of 40 years, David Cox. She is survived by stepsons Greg Cox (Susan), Joe Cox, stepdaughter Deni Cox (Kevin), and daughter Lisa (Scott), eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, sisters Kathy Whalen (Bill) and Rosie Lusk, numerous nieces and nephews, and a large extended family. She will be missed by many.
