Jeanie Flannery

Jeanie Flannery (Wright), a spirited soul and cherished mama, passed away peacefully on December 10th at the young age of 83. A lifelong lover of horses and the arts, her presence brought joy, creativity, and compassion to all who knew her.

Born in Bogalusa LA, her father Nate had a car repair shop where she would be found most days in her overalls trying to help in some way! Jeanie’s family moved to Ohio when she was in middle school. Our favorite story of mom’s was she was in class in Troy Ohio and it started to snow and she didn’t know what it was! She had never seen snow before! Born and raised in humble beginnings, Jeanie found her love for horses and all animals early in life. She showed her horses at the county fairs, competed as a barrel racer, and found joy in anything related to her beloved animals. All her children enjoyed the horses on their property in Ohio. Even in her later years she delighted in watching TV shows about horses, a passion that stayed with her till her final days. Jeanie’s love for animals made for a very interesting, and exciting home; there were birds, hamsters, rabbits, snakes (thank you brother Mark!), a pig named Arnold, a goat named “Nanny” that tormented Kelly everytime she stepped out the door. There were lots of cats, and always had 2-3 horses in the pasture. Jeanie’s in-laws went as far as to mail (!) two Cayman reptiles (alligators) to her children in the late 1960’s. The Cayman’s did not adapt well to the Ohio winters! 

Her creative spirit extended far beyond the horse arena. A gifted artist, she excelled in oils and charcoal, often drawing her children, which passed on the appreciation of art and creativity. Though she once earned a grant to attend art school, she set aside her dreams of competitive barrel racing and a professional art career to raise her children-a decision that reflected her selfless and loving nature. Her talent and resourcefulness shone through in other ways. Known for her crafty side, Jeanie created crafts and sold them at fairs, sharing her passion with others. Jeanie had a unique gift for storytelling, and a knack for making friends wherever she went. To her, there were no strangers-only friends she hadn’t met yet.

Despite growing up with limited means, Jeanie ensured her children’s lives were rich in love and laughter. Her kind, compassionate, and resourceful heart made sure her family never felt the weight of scarcity. She taught her children that the greatest wealth is found in the bonds of family and the kindness shared with others. 

Jeanie loved the lord and her faith guided her through many a tough times, in health and in her personal life. One of her favorite things to do was to watch her son Chad preach! Jeanie lived her final days in an assisted living facility where her son Pastor Chad and daughter in-law Susan assisted most days ensuring she was well taken care of and enveloped her in unconditional love. Jeanie was surrounded by her family till she took her final breath and was at peace and went to meet her Lord Savior Jesus Christ.

There is a hole in our hearts with the passing of our beloved mother. We will forever cherish her gift of gab, her love for animals, her very detailed storytelling, her beautiful smile and most importantly her unconditional love she had for all her family.

Jeanie is preceded in death by her father Nathan Wright and her mother Kathryn Wright, her first husband and father of her children, Douglas Wintringham, and her beloved grandson Brandon Wintringham. Jeanie is survived by her brother Jerry Wright and his wife Irene Wright, her son Mark Wintringham and his wife Gail Wintringham, her daughter Kelly Bader and husband Mike Bader, and her son Chad Wintringham, and his wife Susan Wintringham. She is survived by her grandchildren, Lee, Tyler and Shane Wintringham, Hayden Brown, Emily and Ally Wintringham, and great grandson Chase Wintringham.
