Gurdev Singh Mavi
He is survived and remembered by his many grandchildren. He saw them graduate and saw one of them married. Jagdev Mavi is also survived by his three children, all of whom he saw married and start their own families, and his wife, as well as his college best friend, Bharpur Grewal.
Jagdev Mavi is being remembered in Santa Cruz, California, a few miles from where he lived with his son, daughter-in-law, wife, and grandchildren.
Gurdev Mavi, born on September 3, 1937, was an independent and strong-willed man. He served in the Indian military and fought in the Indo-Pakistan in 1971. Afterwards, he continued to serve his community by working as the District Manager for the Food Corporation of India. At the same time, he was starting and raising his two daughters – Jasmeen and Parveen – and his son – Jagdev – in the family he started with his wife, Jagjeet Mavi, née Grewal. He led a long and interesting life, surviving a bus crash in India before moving to America with his oldest daughter, Jasmeen, and his youngest son, Jagdev.
