November 27, 1938 - July 5, 2025 Celebrated on: September 24, 2025
USS Schurz, Morehead City, North Carolina, 28557
Honoring his final wishes, a small remembrance was held aboard the Olympus Dive Boat. Immediate family members were present as his ashes were scattered over his favorite wreck site - the USS Schurz.
Charles (Charlie) was born and raised in Somerset, MA and lived most of his life in New Fairfield, CT.
From an early age, he embraced the values that would define his life: hard work, loyalty, and a deep sense of patriotism. These principles guided him to the U.S. Navy, where he served with honor as a First Petty Officer aboard the USS Ranger from 1958 to 1961. The sea became a place of both duty and peace for Charlie—a connection that would later lead to a passion for scuba diving, where he found serenity beneath the waves.
After his service, he built a lasting career at Otis Elevator, from where he retired. He wasn’t just a worker though—he was a builder, a fixer, a creator. Whether it was a piece of furniture, a home repair, or a heartfelt gift, Charlie’s hands were always busy, shaping the world around him with care and ingenuity. The final chapter of Charlie’s life came to a peaceful close on July 5, 2025 in Harwinton, CT. Though Charlie has joined his wife, Kathleen, his parents, his brothers Robert and Frank, and his loyal dog Sandy in rest, his story – rich with service, craftsmanship and love, continues on in the lives of his family and those he touched.
