Chun Lian
14 of us got on a boat and set out into the water to give him a proper sea burial. We planted trees in his name, and had his ashes put into a biodegradable urn. Although not everyone was able to make it, his two kids, wife, father-in-law, brother-in-law, and other friends were able to be there to say some goodbyes. We got a playlist of some of his favorite songs and everyone was singing and enjoying their time as they celebrated him. As we got out to the spot for the sea burial, we threw the urn in along with 14 roses and some petals. As we all stood there in silence and said well wishes and goodbyes in our hearts, the boat made one last circle around his final resting place and it was time to head back.
Chun was a devoted and loyal husband, a father of two, and an older brother. He passed away at a young age of 51 due to a brain aneurism. Everywhere he went he was able to bring smiles and laughter to those around him with his sarcasm, and most importantly his dad jokes. He was a man of many talents and hobbies. These included having a green thumb, knowing how to make a wooden katana from scratch, loving arcade games, and just taking care of the upkeep of his home. Whenever his children needed him, he would always have answers for them. He was able to bring out the sillier side of his wife, Carol, and they had a wonderful fulfilling life together. They went on many adventures together and grew together over the many years of being married to each other. Having grown up in a family that frowned upon showing emotions, creating a family was what truly brought out those emotions buried deep inside. He learned what true joy was like, what crying over a sad dog movie was like, and what it was like to live a comfortable life. He was one of the strongest men many people knew, but he always had a soft spot for his dog, Teddy. Adopting Teddy was one of the milestones in his life that unlocked his softer side after so many years of keeping it locked away. Chun was such a unique individual and was loved by everyone around him. Leaving us so soon will leave an emptiness that can never be replaced. We will always miss him and hold him close to our hearts until the end of time.
