Alwyn Bartlett
Celebrated on: October 5, 2025
Following a lovely uplifting funeral , there was a wake with all her family, friends and relatives who made it all memorable... Pictures shown of her life, the early periods and the latter 'second' life.
She was well respected and later had a professional career in a local school administration team.
She was always able to see each of us, even when some were living abroad, and the warmth of visiting her was felt by us children, and grandchildren alike.
On her 90 birthday, despite being no so sure on her feet and needing a wheelchair she piloted a 40' motor catamaran, from Southampton to Cowes on the Isle of Wight, (where she enjoyed many early family memories) and was 'skipper' for most of the return journey.... Admirable even for someone half her age, but as usual mum rose to the challenge with gusto!😉
She fulfilled early married life living in Portsmouth & Southsea, sailing/crewing small yachts with my father.
After her marriage she continued to live in Southsea for many years whilst working at a local school.
She dearly loved the sea and was happiest in later years visiting the coast, spending many happy hours with fish & chips on the seafront near Clarence Pier, or the Hot Walls and Old Portsmouth where the sailing club was located and where dad and mum lived when we were born.
Her wish was for her ashes to be strewn on the outgoing tide, close to the Round Tower, a well known landmark at the harbour entrance.
Finally, not far from here, we held a lovely family remembrance service and she left us to go on her next journey....God bless and rest with you mum, we love you xxxxxx GRA,Helen, Steve and families....
Our dear mum was our ‘port in a storm’ the voice of reason, always with empathy, non judgemental and a loving kind but strong and fair person. She led an interesting life, accepting everyone and important to her was being liked and loved. She was fortunate to live a long life, where all members of our extended families were able to share in her warmth and being there for her children. She often said it was myself, Helen & Steve that kept her going but the truth was it was she that kept us going and was a nucleus to all of us. She leaves a big hole, although our hearts carry the warmth and love she instilled. We miss you mum, rest in peace and see you when the time comes…. Luv Gra, Helen & Steve
